Wuppertal

On the fated trip north to the Moehnesee in September 2003, we came through the Ruhr region and spotted this strange steel gantry running through the valley. At first I thought it was some kind of conveyor for the materials required in the manufacture of steel. Then we spotted our first ‘Danglebahn’, or Schwebbe Bahn to give it the correct nomenclature. The World’s first and possibly only suspended monorail which is part of a municipal transport system. Decked out in blue and orange, the carriages look like big Barr’s Irn Bru cans. Such are the associations that make events memorable. Of course I knew I would alight here some day.

The following Easter Marg and Hector paid their first visit to the Wuppertal With two objectives, try the Schwebbe Bahn and visit the Wuppertaler  Brauhaus.  There have been two further visits, firstly with Dr Stan, Peter and Lord Clive the following year and then on the Bon Accord Trip.
