Stromness, Orkney

West of Kirkwall lies Stromness another Ferry Port. With its narrow main street and narrower lanes off to the sides, this is quite different from anywhere else in Scotland. Cafe Julia will serve a seriously hot coffee if required. The Stromness Hotel dominates the front with the Flattie Bar having a much better interior than the entrance would suggest. The Stromness Museum is worth a visit if only to see the memorabilia associated with the scuttling of the German Fleet in 1918. Other may find the material on John Rae, explorer, and the Hudson Bay Company of interest.
