Almada is the city across the Tagus river to the south of Lisboa. Almada is connected by Ponte 25 de Avril, the 2km long bridge which has more than an uncanny resemblance to the Golden Gate (San Francisco).
The classic view of the road and rail bridge is taken from the promontory at – Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei – again inspired by another famous statue in the Americas.
The ferry from Cais de Sodré leaves for Almada-Cacilhas regularly, a short hop at a minimal price for commuters and tourists alike. A modern tram system takes one inland from the ferry terminal. Unfortunately, transport tickets for Lisboa are not valid in Almada, though the actual tickets themselves can be recharged for use across the water. It is probably better to buy new tickets.
Cacilhas has sailing ship worthy of a visit, plus for Hector the abundance of Curry Houses was noted.
However, the Fish Stew served Portuguese style at restaurant Cova Funda will never be forgotten.
