Delirium Café  –  Brussel

Delirium Café  –  Imp. de la Fidélité 4, 1000 Brussel

Delirium Café Brussel was the first of the Delirium chain encountered. At the time of writing, their outlets in Lisboa, Roma (Trastevere) and Köln have also been visited.

Delirium opens at 11.00 daily until the small hours. Located in the warren of small streets off Grand Place, and make sure you take in Toone before or after, Delirium is a labyrinth in itself and on three different floor levels. Adjacent premises have been integrated to create this multi-bar hence multi-tap venue.  Over 2,000 Biers have been available at one time, yet one Bier in particular has been the attraction.

Chouffe Houblon (Brasserie d’Achouffe, Belgium),  at a modest 9.0% and ordered by the metric pint, was for many years the main attraction at Delirium. With Tomahawk, Saaz and Amarillo, this was the first Belgian IPA and it had US hops, putting Houblon ahead of the game when tastes turned towards IPA.

Sadly, by 2022, Houblon had disappeared from the tap-list, and NEIPA has yet to be fully embraced.
