Trastevere – Roma

When staying in Roma, no other area is considered, Trastevere is a village within the metropolis. Trastevere train station lies at the southern end of Trastevere with connections to Fiumicino Airport. From the city centre, the tram takes one southwest across the Tiber/Tevere from Venezia, the terminus opposite the Vittorio Emanuale II monument. The tram then runs southwards along Viale de Trastevere towards Trastevere train station. Two major churches lie at the northern end, it is around here that the nightlife takes over from the daytime tourists.

Hector and Marg came across the neighbourhood of Trastevere by chance in 2004. Having visited the Coliseum then Circo Massimo, we headed west towards the Vatican City. Having crossed the Tiber/Tevere via the Ponte Palatino, instead of walking north up the left bank, Hector spotted an interesting looking side street – off. The street was Via della Lungaretta home to two eating places which have become firm favourites – Vincenzo Alla Lungaretta – and Baccanale. Two of Roma’s longest established Craft Beer Houses – Bir & Fud – and Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà – are located in Trastevere, more followed.
