Slovenská republika, Slovakia, came into being in 1993 when Czechoslovakia split to form two separate nations. The capital, Bratislava is an hour east of Austria’s capital, Wien/Vienna. Both of these cities lie on the Donau/Danube which flows south-eastwards towards Budapest (Hungary) then onwards to the Black Sea.
Slovakia uses the Euro, prices are well below the European average, on a par with neighbouring Czechia.
