Italia is famed for its hilltop villages which stand proudly above their surrounding plains. Cagliari has its – Castello – the hilltop fortress and now – old town. The slopes and surrounding area have been urbanised which lessens the impact on approach. However, when one reaches the top, the reward is magnificent views from Bastione Saint Remy at the southern tip in.
