Ostia Antica

Almost as impressive as Pompeii and much better than Herculaneum – is how Hector would rate the excavations at Ostia Antica. The ancient port of Roma is some thirty kilometres to the west across the Tiber/Tevere from Leonardo da Vinci Airport. The settlement dates back to half a millennium B.C.E., if anyone wants to know more History look elsewhere, this is all about a day out.

The suburban train to Ostia Antica leaves from the terminus station – Roma Porta S. Paolo, next to Piramide Metro. The Roma day ticket is valid as far as the coast and the modern day town of Ostia.

The impressive amphitheatre inevitably offers the opperchancity to recreate a famous scene from a movie: The People’s Front of Judea, the Judean People’s Front – Splitter!
