Brescia – Lombardia

Brescia pre-dates Roma, this should be enough to entice any visitor. Situated to the west of Lake Garda on the main railway line between Milano and Venezia, Brescia is very accessible. By the end of my first day here, I knew I would return. It was the existence of five Indian Restaurants which first caught the eye as I looked for a day trip from Desenzano del Garda. Man cannot live on Seafood Pasta alone, and as some appreciate, the Italians do not make decent Pizza! The promise of archaeological sites, a Forum, conjured up images of Roma. For the evening, there is a choice of Micro-Breweries, plus other Bars to be explored.

The original core of the town has fine squares – Piazza Paolo VI, Piazza della Loggia and Piazza della Vittoria – also a plethora of churches. For those who wish to do more than admire the exterior architecture, hours of amusement. At the northern end of the old town lies the Castello the grounds of which are free to wander around, though one has to pay to see the armaments Museum contained therein.

For the evenings, there are choices of Micro-Breweries, plus some worthy Bars, though the best ones do not open until late afternoon, early evening. Coffee, al fresco, in one of the many cafes may suffice until then.
