Arriving at Portland International Airport (PDX) the MAX light rail system takes one to the city centre, be prepared to change from the Red to Green lines at Gateway if heading downtown. Compared to many, the airport is remarkably close to the city. Day tickets are recommended and can be purchased from machines before boarding.
The MAX is part of the TriMet public transport system, tickets are valid on buses, including those which cross the Columbia River to Vancouver (Washington). Google Maps supply all the timings and routes necessary.
