Le Trappiste – Brugge

Le Trappiste – Kuiperstaat 33, 8000 Brugge

Located just off the north side of Grote Marrkt, the cellar in which this multi-tap bar is sited, dates back to the thirteenth century, being rediscovered in the 1970s.

With twenty seven Biers on tap and one hundred and fifty in bottles, there must be something here for everyone. First visited in 2024, the place was stowed, and the Bier range was found to be somewhat obvious, conservative by Belgian standards. Where were the big hitting Lambics?

Securing a table proved to be difficult, the staff not being that helpful. With a young crowd, noisy in comparison to the usual traditional Belgian Bier bar. Maybe it’s good they come here, our favourite places can maintain their sedate atmosphere.  It is worth a visit, if just for the history.

Closed on a Sunday and Wednesday, La Trappiste is otherwise open at 17.00 until midnight; 01.00 on Friday & Saturday.
