Bonifacio is at the southern tip of Corsica and therefore the shortest ferry crossing to Sardinia. There are three ferries a day which do not match the times of the buses from Ajaccio. A long lunch became mandatory.
The harbour area is modern and puts to shame what we experienced in Ajaccio and Bastia, Bonifacio has the atmosphere of being a resort. Accommodation here is extortionate. There is a left-luggage facility on the opposite side of the harbour from where the ferry departs, work that one out.
The Old Town dominates the skyline, there’s a constant flow of traffic up and down. Although tempted, we did not haul our luggage up the hill to investigate further.
Of the four settlements visited in Corsica, Bonifacio appeared to be the most vibrant.
