Marg and Hector have a former colleague who comes from Furiani, a few kilometres south of Bastia. This is also the location of Brasserie Peitra whose overpriced Bier was available across Corsica. The Bastia Tourist Information people suggested we take the train. Furiani station is right beside Brasserie Pietra, it is a ten minute walk towards the lagoon and the emptiest of beaches. There was no shade at the beach, no facilities of any description other than parking. Having dipped out toes n the water, it was time to head inland.
It’s a seventy five minute walk to the top of the hill and Furiani Old Town. Buses do not not serve the Old Town. Views are constantly blocked by trees, houses and cables.
The eighteenth century Tour Paoline, not open to the public, is at the apex of the Old Town. There are no shops, or services of any kind. Fortunately we were carrying our own water.
Furiani is home to Brasserie Pietra which is easily found near the train station and across from the football stadium for FC Bastia.
