The Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, laid the foundation stone in 1876. Price Albert became Edward VII in 1901 after the death of Queen Victoria. He reigned for nine years which is also how long it took to build this Albert Hall. It was only after the completion of the building that it was decided that the building should be a museum.
