Empire English Pub – Bologna

Empire English Pub – Via Zamboni, 24a, 40126 Bologna Italia

Twelve plus taps, one – English Beer – appears to be enough to justify the moniker. There’s Tennent’s Super too which is more common throughout Italia. At 9.0%, a lager so strong, the brewer dare not sell it in Scotland where it is brewed. The remainder of the Bier on tap is safe, suiting twentieth century tastes.

A large venue, as much for eating as drinking.  One orders and pays at a kiosk, how this works at busy times is not known.  Suppose a Bier needs changing?

The receipt is taken to the bar, the staff then discover what has been ordered and retain the the receipt. This is not as efficient as hamburger joints which operate a numbered system. Totally impersonal is the conclusion.  Even the QR code method of ordering, introduced by many on the edges of Lockdown, has proved to be more engaging.

Classic videos were being shown on the screens, the sound off. Endless rap was blaring, for whom, the enjoyment of the staff?  For whose pleasure is this establishment being run?
