Nora – Area Archeologica – Cagliari

Nora – 09010 Nora Metropolitan City of Cagliari

Having seen Anfiteatro di Cagliari in the centre of the city, the Roman, and pre-Roman ruins at Nora have more to offer. The ancient settlement is sited on a peninsula thirty five kilometres south west of Cagliari adjacent to Pula, home to the rich and famous.

Open daily at 09.00, Bus 129 takes one to nearby Pula which has a popular beach. The partial ruins of a Roman aqueduct map the short route between the two.

The sheer size of the site shows how important this settlement was in earlier times. The amphitheatre is still in use, however, it is spoiled by modern seating superimposed on top of the original.

Unusually, in July 2019, we chose to visit with a private guide arranged by the tour rep at Hotel Italia, Cagliari. After the isolation of our visit to Nuraghe Palmavera (Alghero), this proved to be a worthy investment.  It also meant we had our own paparazzo.
