Old Square – Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 44, 09124 Cagliari CA
Old Square is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuale II, the main pedestrianised street running west from the city centre. A large, spacious bar, there are also plenty of tables and chairs al fresco. Old Square was certainly the busiest bar we encountered in Cagliari. This was borne out by the people we chatted to in Sassari who assured us that on reaching Cagliari, Old Square was the venue for Hector. What they didn’t tell us that it’s an Irish Bar. OK, so you hang a flag and sell Guinness, there was nothing else – Irish – about this place.
The range of Bier was hardly contemporary, that Paulaner Weizen (München, Bayern) was the Bier of choice in 2019 says it all. I had a La Chouffe (Belgium) for old time’s sake, however, having moved on in recent years to Chouffe Houblon, Blond Bier holds less charm.
Being a cafe, bar and restaurant, Old Square had plenty to keep Marg amused. The multiple television screens made this our venue to watch the Wimbledon finals.
