Hotel Portacavana – Via Felice Venezian, 14, 34124 Trieste TS
The price was right, the location appeared to be ideal, seconds from the cluster of Bier houses at the end of the pedestrianised area south west of Piazza Unità d’Italia.
The decor is decidedly quirky, expectations were high, reviews elsewhere positive, until one really looks into them. Too late. As I wrote elsewhere:

Fridge
On being shown room, I immediately questioned the working of fridge, cleaning woman said it worked – a little….not good enough. Fridge gave off so much heat to the already hot room we used it to dry clothes.
TV and cable channels in room description….no channels available at any time….so missed World Cup, Wimbledon, Grand Prix, no News.
Hair dryer – the hose was missing rendering it useless.
I emailed the property twice during our stay, no reply….so they don’t care their customers are not happy?
Safety deposit box in room description…where?
Noise – on a main Street with buses, cars and motorcycles passing at all hours, very noisy difficult to sleep.
Dark – the long, very long, corridor is dark, not welcoming. The interior of the room was also dim, even with the light on. Furniture in room which served no purpose.
Reception….at far end of the dark corridor…receptionist barely speaks English, happy to hide himself away, “Reception”…where was the greeting/welcome?

Waited five days for important mail, I kept asking, receptionist who knew nothing, at check out he was going to phone his boss….sums up this faceless property, who are the people behind this dwelling?
