Piazza Unità d’Italia
There is an irony in that the main square in Trieste is named after the unity of Italy when the city was once part of Austria. Possibly the largest seafront square in Italia, the architecture on the three enclosed sides is impressive. The palace-like municipal buildings are imposing.
Crossing the main seafront road – Riva del Mandracchio – the offset pier – Molo Audace – affords great views back to the Piazza and the hilltop Castello di San Giusto .
