Located some 20km south of Taroudant, Tiout was visited as part of a day trip from Agadir in December 2023.
Tiout comprises of a hilltop Kasbah with an oasis and settlement in the valley below.
The view from the Kasbah Restaurant across the valley captures all. Hector is not a geologist, but the ancient lava flows across the slopes above the oasis suggested a nonconformity which enabled the Artesian basin to evolve.
The water source has been managed by building open-air tanks, from there gravity feeds the palms and other crops being grown on the valley floor.
Tourist accommodation appears to be available among the palms.
Strangely, our visit did not include a stop-off in the adjacent Berber town of some three thousand inhabitants. Instead, our trip was managed such that local transportation by donkey was provided on the periphery of the settlement.
In the approaches to Tiout we passed the famous goats grazing in the sporadic trees.
The poor chap illustrated did fall from a considerable height, – thud! And walked away.
Lunch at the Kasbah Restaurant was also a highlight of the day. When Tajine is on offer, the Hector tends to choose Lamb or Fish, here a Chicken Tajine was provided accompanied a Vegetable Couscous. Recommended.
