Wellington – New Zealand

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. As happens, Wellington is not the largest city in the country, that is Auckland. As a consquence, only three days of the twenty one spent in New Zealand in April 2024, were in the capital.

Wellington is situated at the south of the North Island at 41ºS, the same latitude as Nelson which is in the north-west of the South Island.

Geography ain’t rocket science.

Arrival / Departure

Whilst there is a train from Wellington Railway Station to/from the Aiport, The Airport Express bus service was to hand.  Well signed at the Airport’s exits (down and to the left), this has the advantage of drop-offs before the station. Tap on/off with a bank card is possible.

Lambton Quay is the main street Downtown, it is also from here that the Wellington Cable Car departs.

For domestic flights, a four digit flight code on New Zealand Airways, signifies a propellor ‘plane, there is no security check. One simply enters the terminal and sits at the gate until called, reminiscent of the old days. Plenty of time to enjoy the birds of prey suspended from the terminal ceiling.
