Chinatown in Singapore is located close to the Downtown area and has its own dedicated MRT stop. Compared to Little India, Chinatown is far more bustling. The vibrant stalls, how many times a day does one in particular play – The Yellow Rose of Texas (in Cantonese) – alternate with the multitude of eateries. One can eat here for little, in Singapore terms, or splash out.
There is little point in coming here and not trying the cuisine famed in the UK for its – Big Onions – and copious – Capsicum. We ate at Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine @Chinatown on Mosque Road. Hunan cuisine is Spicier!

Wandering around, we took in the indoor and street markets, the traditional architecture juxtaposed by the skyscrapers on the periphery, and the awful 1960s tower block.
Smith Street, once called – Brothel Street – is covered but is one of the less colourful ones to walk along.
