1492, a well known year in the history of the Americas. 1588, was probably more significant in shaping what would become an English speaking United States of America. Hector first set foot in the USA in 1969, flying to JFK from Prestwick Airport (Scotland) on a VC10. That is how it was. After some days in the Brooklyn Docks there followed a ten day sail down the east coast on the Clyde-built – MV Scotstoun. Philadelphia, Baltimore and Newport News were stopping off points before sailing south, past the Amazon, to Brasil, Argentine then home via South Africa. Hector has done a bit of travelling. The next two US trips were in the company of pupils, 2000 and 2010, to California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah. Bier was consumed, but not very much. Things improved significantly thereafter. In 2013 there was a short trip to New York NY to celebrate Marg’s – Big Birthday. The Bier-Traveller Blog covers the seventeen day trip in 2018 to – The Land of the Hops. Flying to San Francisco, Hector, in the company of Dr. Stan subsequently flew north to Portland (Oregon), then travelled by train to Eugene then Albany and Corvallis. Eventually we flew home from Seattle (Washington).
In 2024, Hawaii, California, Washington, Nevada, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York were visited as part of – Around The World In 80 Days.
