Miami Beach FL, unknowingly, was first seen by this writer in – Goldfinger, not that Sean Connery ever set foot here, all second unit filming and dodgy back projection, as was the case in the 1960s. Miami Beach FL is a separate city to Miami FL, this is made clear to all.An offshore sandbar, Miami Beach is connected to Miami FL by bridges various. Bus 100 from Downtown Miami takes the intrepid traveller firstly to the southern end of Miami Beach. It is certainly worth alighting here for South Pointe Park and taking the beach walk northwards.

The quirky lighthouse and the pier lead one to the actual beach. Ocean Drive, the promenade, features the best preserved line of art deco buildings ever encountered on one side, Lummus Park on the seaside.

One was immediately drawn to The Colony Hotel, that a photo of this building was hanging in our hotel room in Miami FL was either spooky, or subliminal. Bars and restaurants are plentiful along this strip.

To the north lies modern Miami Beach, the big hotels, Goldfinger territory.
