Birra – Italian Craft Beer – Prenzlauer Allee 198, 10405 Berlin
As the name suggests, Birra is an Italian Craft Beer House in Berlin. For Hector, Craft Beer began in Italia in the final years of the twentieth century on trips to Milano and Roma where Birrificio Lambrate and Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fa were encountered, respectively. The M2 tram northwards from Alexanderplatz to Am Steinberg via Prenzlauer Berg passes Birra, though Hector will admit to usually staying aboard for an extra stop and alighting for Bräugier. However, with Monterey Bar around the corner from Birra, alighting at Danziger Strasse may become a more common event.
Birra is closed on Monday’s, other open daily from 18.00.
This multi-tap bar has a dozen keg taps plus three hand-pulls. First visited in 2017 when Sterling still had some value, even then the prices hurt. Return visits in 2020 had me won, even the snacks proved to be an attraction.
Gaina 6.0% (Birrifico Lambrate, Italia)
IPA Gold with a slight haze, this was a full on IPA featuring Simcoe, Zeus, Cascade and Centennial hops. The Bier was very dry, and had the root of – the taste.
Robb de Matt 5.5% (Birrifico Lambrate, Italia)
Rye IPA The term – rye – can be off-putting, however, trips to Polska have introduced this to the palate, nothing to fear here, another fine Bier from Milano.
Ghisa 5.0% (Birrifico Lambrate, Italia)
Smoked Stout Keg-hand-pull.
The palate needed a change from intense hops, this was spot on, superb, and enjoyed more than when had at Source.
Porpora 8.0% (Birrifico Lambrate, Italia)
Hoppy Bock
A strong Dunkles reminiscent of Andechs Doppelbock.
Despite the slight sweetness, very easy to drink.
