Monterey Bar – Berlin

Monterey Bar  –  Danziger Str. 61, 10435 Berlin

Monterey Bar is located around the corner from the always impressive Birra – Italian Craft Beer pub in Prenzlauer Berg.  Both are therefore minutes way from Berlin’s #1 Bier attraction – Bräugier. Open daily at 17.00 until 01.00 at least, this venue is certainly worth checking out en route.

Bier aside, one can immediately tell when a bar is something special.  The decor is wild, a lot of imagination has gone into the painting of the walls.

The music, mostly metal, was not of the grunge variety and was played at a tolerable level. Having spotted the DJ unit, perhaps this is not always the case. Despite the photo of Back Sabbath prominently hung in the main area, the barman had not heard of the passing of Lee Kerslake (Uriah Heep & Ozzy) which marked the day of our visit.

For old time’s sake, Stone IPA (Esconido, California, USA) at 6.9% was the first Bier of choice, followed by the Jucy Liu (2020) NEIPA from BrewHeart, Bayern. At 6.5%, this Milkshake had some of the right hops, but sadly some of the wrong ones.  A bit hit & miss therefore.

Monterey Bar, however, is definitely worth checking out.
