Sydney lies 34º south of the Equator, comparable to Southern California, North-West Africa, even the Himalayas, but then comparisons break down. Sydney, the largest city in Australia, but not the capital, as a Glaswegian I know how they must feel.
Spot Botany Bay on approach.
One assumes international arrivals at Sydney International Aiport is the same process as described in Brisbane. Get you on-line preparation right and there will be no issues.
T – for trains
The airport has two train stations: International and Domestic.
Leaving the airport by train is simple. Forget travel-cards, tapping on/off works on the four forms of public transport around Sydney.
Your destination may well be Central Station, however, the line loops round the Downtown area, taking in Circular Quay, the hub of the Ferry service, through Wynyard for Darling Harbour, then Town Hall.
In the city centre stations, tapping on/off at the barrier is obvious.
Outwith the centre, look for machines on the platforms.
F – for ferries
There are 9 ferry routes. Circular Quay between The Rocks and the Opera House is the hub.
Given the complexity of the coastline, taking a ferry may well be the fastest form of transport to places outwith the Downtown area. Manly (F1) certainly, and even as far as the Olympic Village (F3) up the Parramatta River. If walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge one way is enough, take the ferry (F4) back from Milsons Point.
At some wharves, there is no need to tap off.
L – for Light Rail (trams)
Again, Circular Quay is the focal point of the Downtown routes. With no machines on the trams themselves, tap on/off at the – L – stop.
B – for bus
Unlike the Light Rail, one does tap on/off on the bus itself. Front door to enter, middle door to alight.
Good luck!
