Served by its own airport and Wien’s (Österreich), Bratislava, formerly – Presburg, is very accessible. Trains arrive from Wien at two stations. The main bus station lies to the east of the Old Town, however, airport buses also stop at Bratislava Most SNP to the south east of the Old Town at the foot of the Hrad/Castle and opposite the Cathedral.
Stare Miasto, the Old Town of Bratislava, is virtually traffic free which makes it thoroughly pleasant to wander through. The Castle dominates the skyline.
Take Bus 29 for the half hour journey to Devinsky Hrad / Devin Castle where the River Morava joins the Donau. Here one is facing across to Österreich, the Gate of Freedom is a memorial to those shot whilst trying to cross the Iron Curtain.
The atmosphere feels very much like that of Praha/Prague ten years ago. There is a great variety of Bier/Pivo to be consumed, the majority is quite traditional, though New World Hops are starting to arrive.
