Shamrock – Ajaccio

Shamrock  –  9 Rue Notre Dame, 20000 Ajaccio, Corsica

The last time Hector entertained setting foot in an Irish Bar was in North Cyprus, a decade or more ago. Then it was a case of – needs must. Good as Microbrasserie Imperiale is, it did lack atmosphere, unless one was content to join those who sit outside and pollute.

Shamrock, it looks like it must be an – Irish Bar – from the outside, on closer examination one cannot help notice the abundant – Paulaner – (München) lanterns. It was these that sucked me in, Paulaner Helles and Weizen were on tap, the prices impressed. Having paid more than I think is justifiable for Corsican Bier, to find Paulaner Helles on sale at €6.00 was most certainly attractive.

An eclectic array of bottled Bier (one excepted) was also available, Belgian Bier at prices comparable to Belgium. Kwak always tempts.

Mein Host was friendly, helpful, but did bring his lit cigarette into the Bar whilst serving. Wrong on two counts then. Fortunately, a very efficient fan dealt with the fallout.  On our next visit we pulled him up over this, he apologised, extinguished the offending article, but forgot later.

A corner venue, Shamrock is well laid out with rooms off and alcoves.  With plenty of TVs, Shamrock is ideal for major sporting events. This was the closest to a – Pub – that I encountered in Corsica. Irish? In name only.
