Birreria Turondola – Via Torre Tonda, 28, 07100 Sassari SS
Turondola is the venue Hector was most looking forward to visiting. Located at the southwest edge of the old town in Sassari, and metres from Giardini Pubblici, and so very simple to locate, however, the entrance is quite modest. With seats outside in the narrow street, the umbrellas tend to obscure Turondola. Beyond the doorway lies a long, cavernous bar which is similar in style to a Bierhalle. The photos show an empty venue, the majority choosing to sit outside in the warm summer evenings, Hector prefers the cleaner air of the inside of a pub!
The staff were very welcoming, perhaps wearing a Cantillon (Brussel, Belgium) t-shirt on the first visit made them aware that Bier was taken seriously. There is a wide range of Bier available at the multi-tap bar. I was delighted to find Firestone Walker’s – Mind Haze IPA – which was totally – in the style. Unfortunately it proved to be so popular it was soon finished and could not be replaced during our days in Sassari. An APA from the locale brewery – P3Brewing – became the substitute for subsequent visits. It was Bailley’s for Marg after she had her fruity Ciders.
Mind Haze IPA (Firestone Walker Brewery, Paso Robles, California, USA) 6.2%
Yellow with a full haze, this was the desired – milkshake – living up to expectations. The flavours were beautiful, hoppy, yet mellow.

American Pale Ale (Birrificio P3Brewing, Sassari, Sargegna, Italia) 5.5%
Gold, hazy, dry, the flavour of the hops came across, but not as strongly as the above IPA.
We visited in each of four Sassari nights in July 2019. By the final night there was Bier on the house and photos with the staff. Birreria Turondola did not disappoint!
Turondola – does not translate, but I am reminded of Scott’s reference to – touron – one night in Seattle last year.
