Nuraghe Palmavera – Alghero – Sardegna

One is used to encountering Greco-Roman ruins as one travels around Europe. An archaeological site, dating back to the Bronze Age – 1500 BCE, is something different.

The focal point of the site is the remnants of a series of towers which were linked internally.  At Palmavera these we originally built from limestone then latterly sandstone.

Palmavera is accessible by public transport if one does not mind a walk. The bus from Alghero passes near the train station and heads to Bombarde Beach west of Fertilia. From there it’s a fifteen minute walk to Palmavera. Unfortunately on our visit in July 2019, the scheduled bus back did not appear resulting in an even lengthier walk back to Fertilia along the cycle path.
