The above is all that was written in these pages for far too long. In the first trip of the twenty first century to Roma in 2004, the search for new-age Italian-brewed Birra took Hector and Marg to Starbess Birrificio where we were made most welcome. Sadly it disappeared shortly afterwards. In recent years the Craft Beer scene has blossomed, the Italians have come to appreciate there is more than Eurofizz to Birra.
For those who prefer to keep their Bier drinking until the evenings, there is of course the wonder of ancient Rome to discover plus many more recent- historic/tourist – sights. A day trip to Ostia Antica, the ancient port of Roma, is highly recommended. This site is comparable in size to Pompeii and just as impressive.
Beware of the meaning of Birreria. It does translate as – Brewpub, but is more likely to be – alehouse, beer house or brasserie. Birrificio is the best chance of finding Bier brewed on the premises. One then runs the risk of finding a Brewery but no Taproom.
