Restaurant Pizzeria Jardino – Front de Mer, 22 Promenade Tawada, Agadir 80000
Located on the sea front just south of Agadir Marina, Jardino became our chosen spot for – aperitivo – watching the sunset before outstanding Curry at nearby Bollywood-Oceana. Jardino is also where we found ourselves in the small hours of December 25th.
It was the sign out front for draught Bier at 40.00 dh (€4.00) which was the initial attraction. Flag Special (Société des Brasseri du Maroc) at 4.8% was a decent Lager alternative to Casablanca had most nights at Le Z.
Restaurant Jardino, early evening I did see some people eat outdoors. As ever in Maroc, inside was no-go, well, until 23.30 on December 24th. The live music proved to be hypnotic, traditional Berber sounds. Eventually we agreed with our waiter that we would go indoors if he could find us somewhere we could breath. Fortunately the first table at the open door was free.
A keyboard player did the necessary vamping, providing the Arabian backing sounds and rhythms, meanwhile the lead musician played fiddle a la cello and sang his heart out. Not one note did we know, did it matter? This was a memorable night.
Berber Music, Bier, and an endless supply of nibbles. I had never seen the locals drink so much alcohol, so who is kidding who?
In summer, the plastic screens which formed the front wall are undoubtedly raised to create an open restaurant, unlike the enclosed area we witnessed. Jardino on warmer nights must be – the place – to visit on the Agadir waterfront.
