Illinois – USA

Illinois is a Midwestern State in the USA. Being part of the New World, this means it is only a third of the way across the land mass from the east coast. On a flight from Las Vegas NV to Newark NJ, I was surprised to see The Great Lakes loom so large from the ‘plane window.

Springfield, in the centre of the state, is the capital. Chicago on the west coast of Lake Michigan is the major city. St. Louis, Missouri, lies diagonally opposite in the south west of Illinois.

The Chicago River used to flow into Lake Michigan, with the build up pollution, its flow was reversed such that it now flows westwards to the Mississippi.
