Portland ME, aka The Forest City , is located in the south west of Maine . The largest city in Maine , it’s maritime location led to the development of shipping and fishing. To this commentator, the harbor area brought Aberdeen (Scotland) to mind. Unlike Aberdeen, there is quality Bier to be had in this New England city.
At 47ºN, Portland ME has cold winters and hot summers. Precipitation is variable, expect snow in winter.
Portland International Jetport serves the city. While an Uber is always the easiest form of transport, Bus 5/7 takes you, the twenty minute journey, to the city centre.
Expect to pay cash.
Our party arrived by train from Boston MA. The train station – also doubles as Portland Transportation Center . From here, coaches serve longer distances, whilst Bus 5/7 also serves this stop.
